FAQs

  • Why is Alcatraz called “The Rock”?

Because it is basically just a large rock off the coast of San Francisco, with no plant or animal life around. Desolate and barren, it is the perfect setting for a prison.
  • Is there a night tour?

Yes! For night tours, you’ll take the last ferry at 3:40PM. Atmospheric, intimate and downright creepy, these dark tours feature a boat cruise around the island, special programs and views of the city skyline at sunset.
